These questions help children name feelings, connect the story to their own lives, and retell what happened.
Before
Before Reading
“What do you think this story will be about?”
“What challenge do you think the character might face in this story? What feeling do you think they might have?”
“Have you ever experienced a situation like the one we’re about to read about? Tell us about it.”
During
During Reading
“How is this character feeling right now? How would you feel if that happened to you?”
“Why do you think they are feeling that way?”
Tip: For Books 1 to 4, invite children to use the prompt: “I feel ___ because ___.”
“What does that feeling feel like?”
Tip: For Books 5 to 8, invite children to use the prompt: “Being ___ feels like ___.”
“What do you think will happen next? What might the characters do to be brave, kind, calm, or show grit?”
“What is another ‘What if...’ statement a Team Supercrew hero could share?”
After
After Reading
“Can you tell the story in your own words? What happened first, next, and last?”
“How did the character become brave, kind, calm, or show grit by the end of the story?”
“Have you ever felt like the character in the story? Tell me about it. What did you do?”
Tips for Teachers
Make it work for every child
- Bring the story to life by incorporating other Team Supercrew materials, such as capes, badges, or plush toys.
- Keep SOS cards nearby for children who experience big feelings during reading.
- Use guided reading questions flexibly. Some children may respond verbally, while others may communicate through gestures, drawing, or play.
